” Use of AED in ChildrenEHolland Phillips06.05.29

Holland Phillips has enhanced the function of automatic external defibrillator (AED), a life-saving equipment for heart attack, so that it can be used in children less than 8 years of age. Responding to that, the ministry of health and labour has loosened the age limit for AED.

AED is an electronic device. The operator applies the electrode pads to the chest, and the AED delivers an electric shock to help the heart re-establish a normal rhythm. Phillips has modified its AED to include pediatric-sized electrode pads that reduce to 1/3 of the energy level delivered by adult AED, therefore the set of AED and pediatric pads makes the adult AED available for use in 1-7 years old children. Pediatric pad costs a little under 20,000 Yen, and an AED equipment is over 700,000 Yen. The aim is to sell 4000 sets a year.
