Thimerosal in Vaccines | 2007.11.06 |
Thimerosal is a kind of organic mercury that has been used in some vaccines as a preservative. In the body, thimerosal is metabolized to ethylmercury, which is believed to be toxic even its mechanism is not very clear up. Ethylmercury is also one kind of organic mercury, like the well-known Minamata disease, it can damage an immature nervous system. Anyway, it would be better not to put an unclear thing into our bodies. Some products of influenza vaccine still contain thimerosal but our clinic does not use them. The influenza vaccines we use every year do not contain thimerosal. Although the price is a little high, it is safe. |
