How to Choose Antibiotics?

Illness (infectious illness) can be caused by many different kinds of pathogenic bacteria, thus doctors must apply antibiotics correctly. How do they determine which antibiotic to use?
Considering Pathogenic Bacteria

What is the pathogenic bacteria? Is it one or two more kinds? Whether it is antibiotic resistant bacteria or not.
Considering patient’s health condition. Mild or moderate patients are prescribed oral antibiotics, injection ones are used in patients with severe infections. Considering the health problem the patient already has, and the patient’s age, i.e. children, adults, or the aged population.

・ Considering the Infected Location in the Body

Where is the infected location in the body? Is it in respiratory tract(pharynx、trachea、lungs)、urinary tract(Kidneys、ureter、bladder、urethra)、liver、or gallbladder etc?

Considering the Distribution of the Antibiotic in the Body?

How many dosages of the antibiotic can get what level in the blood? How long will the effective level in the blood last? How many dosages can reach the infected site? And whether or not the antibiotic can work effectively in that site.

Considering Side Effects

Antibiotics are foreign substances so it is always necessary to consider their side effects.
